Questions:
1. Do most of you bb'ers taper your carbs (most carbs at meal one, least carbs at end of day) in the offseason or is that just a pre-contest practice or is it better to keep them consistent through the day offseason? 2. What if a person consistently trains in the evening; should the regularly scheduled morning carbs be moved to later in the day? 3. I understand the post-workout importance of carbs but does it matter that much if you already have full glycogen stores from early morning carbs or consistent carbs throughout the day? |

If you are not an evening lifter then I would recommend a carb cut-off time around 6pm, where by you limit any carbs after that point in the day to only green leafy veggies or other high fibrous carbs. An exception would be on a planned carb-up day. By planning the majority of your carb intake earlier in the day it allows your body to better utilize those carbs as energy and to replenish muscle glycogen. When carbs are consumed later in the day they tend to be stored as reserve energy - which for many means as body fat.
If you are an evening lifter then it is ok to have a post WO meal that includes faster acting carbs, but try to consume it right after your W/O and not right before you go to bed. If you are familiar with Layne Nortons web site, he has a couple of good articles there that discuss macronutrient timing and the impact that it can have for a natural BBer. You may find them of interest. VA MadDog |
