Has anyone ever gotten their Pro Tan applied with an airbrush machine? Last year I applied two coats of the Pro Tan with the brush it comes with but am thinking about having it airbrushed on this year. Any advice, experiences??

I have never gotten dark enough on my own (4 shows) and decided to get tanned at the show. It will take a load of stress off you. If the service is offered, go for it.

Marisa,

Do not use their applicator, will take forever. Get a sponge and pour the stuff in a bowl. Dip and apply, much quicker.

YOu also need at least 4 coats usually, then apply a light coat of Dream Tan.

Good Luck

I love getting airbrush tanned myself. If you have access to being airbrushed I highly recommend it. BUT, some things you should know for best results (and your sprayer should tell you these things too):

1. You need to have a very deep base tan before getting sprayed. If you are against tanning beds, you should have a few coats of tanning product applied before visiting your air brush person. (Use Jason’s recommendations when applying…pour in a bowl and use a large sponge. You can also use a small sponge type paint roller to even out lines and streaks).

2. If you can start getting sprayed a few days before the show by this person and get a fresh spray each day that is best. Then you don’t have to have a few coats already applied before.

3. If you can’t see this person a few days before, at least get on the schedule early the day before the show so you can get sprayed a few times and can dry completely between each spray. Tanning products work best when each coat has time to dry completely before applying another.

4. Even if you are getting airbrushed, don’t wait until the morning of the show to start getting tan applied. That makes it really tough for the tan to dry well enough. This will almost always lead to a runny tan.

The keys: have a base tan, have plenty of coats of tanning products applied (letting each dry completely between applications) and start far enough in advance to get the color desired, let the product set in and “stain” your skin and avoid running and streaking.

Thanks Rachel! Here is what I was thinking of doing:

1. Possibly doing the tanning beds or some airbrushing over the next couple of weeks before each 2 week evaluation with my coach.

2. Getting airbrushed with Pro Tan Friday morning then Saturday morning (my show is Sunday)

3. Doing a quick rinse off Sunday morning then apply my Dream Tan

Does this sound reasonable? To get the "base tan" you are referring to, would you suggest doing the beds or having the airbrush product applied?

Sorry for all the questions. I am a little nervous because this is only my second show and last year I had two coats of the Pro Tan painted on Saturday and applied the Dream Tan Sunday. I am hesitant to change things because my coloring was good but I am not sure if my coach will be able to paint me this year with the Pro Tan...

I was in my first show on 9-29-07, and I was really nervous about my color the night before the show. It seemed too dark. I applied about 4 coats of Pro Tan total (started on Thursday). When I got to the show on Saturday, I wasn't dark ENOUGH! So thanks to DREAM TAN (#2), I was able to get my color much darker. I love that stuff! So I would definitely suggest using this the morning of the show. It really goes on nicely and has such a pretty color on top of PRO TAN!

I understand being nervous. That's normal and coloring is important. I need to know a couple of things...

1. When is your show and when were you planning to start tanning before. Tanning in the tanning bed should start at least a month out a few days a week.

2. Are you doing bodybuilding or figure? What organization?

3. What skin tone type do you have? Light, medium, olive, dark, etc.

Rachel,
Here are the answers to your questions:
1.My show is Nov. 18th so I have 6 weeks from this upcoming Sunday. I was planning on starting either the bed tanning or airbrushing next week.

2. I am doing figure with the NPC.

3. My skin tone is medium.

I have used the Jan Tana system that is available on their site. I had my friend airbrush me two times the nite before and one coat morning of the show. It was absolutely perfect.
Don't forget to use their exfoliator and moisturizer. Those are key.

Hi Marisa. Thanks for answering those questions for me...that helps.

Again, start tanning a few times a week in a tanning bed so you get a good, dark base tan.
Get airbrushed Friday morning and then Friday night too if you can. You can take a shower that night or on Saturday morning, but just rinse, don't use a wash cloth all over. I know it sounds gross, but I wouldn't shower after that...just use a wash rag to clean where needed.

Get a coat or two on Saturday. Again, don’t shower after these coats, just use a wash rag to clean where needed. The last few coats really should be with no shower to let the color set in. Water will just make it run and be lighter. You can get a touch up coat on Sunday if needed. Try to do as many coats as you can before Sunday though, as you want each coat to be fully dry before show time.

I recommend Pro Tan, unless you know someone that has a lot of experience putting Jan Tana on. Jan Tana looks great if someone is experienced using it, but Pro Tan is much more “no fail”. I do not recommend any Dream Tan for you. Figure girls generally don’t wear it. Also, most NPC competitions do not allow it, as it gets everywhere. It smears off all day onto everything. I would steer clear of Dream Tan.

Hope this helps.
