If I train early in the AM (like 5:00) what is the best thing to eat? I have been training on an empty stomach, and thats not working too good. Thanks!

Deena, if you can eat a meal of Egg Whites and Oatmeal 30-45 mins before you train, that would work wonders for your energy levels. The specific amounts of that meal depends on your current diet info, goals, and weight/body fat levels.

Go ahead and post your current diet so we can establish what would work best for you and when.

Are you on a fatloss diet? Maintaining?

I cannot eat, then workout. I need 2 hours, otherwise, it is time to look for the nearest wastebasket.

For an empty stomach, use an energy drink. I use Gatorade when it is possible. Contest dieting, that's a different story. Muscle Mass, Energy Reserve and/or Mass Aminos.

Frank,

So if I do a protein shake pre-workout and eggs + oats (p + c meal) afterwards, that's ok enough for a fat loss diet?

You will be fine, Rachel. The small amount of calories coming from sugar are going to be used for energy. If you're going to consume the entire amount prior or a very large energy drink containing 300 cals, you may get the blast of energy, hoping to use all of it.

In my case, it is hoping to preserve muscle, rather than harvesting it for energy. With this current routine, my workouts will last up to 2.5 hours, but it is not intense supersetting, etc. Only the last 10-15 minutes is where I alter the tempo and finish off with cardio.

I'm just having like an 120-maybe 200 calorie shake, mostly protein, very few carbs.

Right now my workout is TaeBo advanced bootcamp with resistance bands.
