To pinch or not to pinch? So I've had caliper testing many times, some testers pinch more than others. What is accurate? Should we feel them pinching our skin? Should we feel the calipers tight on our skin? I know consistency matters-so I will continue with the same tester to observe changes over time. It seems to vary so much between testers. Any thoughts appreciated.

It takes hundreds and hundreds of tests I think to get completely accurate. I was taught to pull the skin using about 3 inches of skin from the body, then put the calipers in the area between the muscle and the end of the skin, so basically in the middle of the pinch. Jason Theobald

Ok. So, should it hurt a little when they pull the skin? ie..is it is more accurate when the tester really pulls the skin away or if they gently grasp the skin. Thanks J-you'll be getting this info soon!

LOL, Ive had some women say ouch, but not usually the men, so I dont know if thats a gender thing or a personal thing. But, I pull fairly hard just to get the separation. Legs are sometimes hard though especially if someone is carrying a lot of fat there, it can be kind of hard to pinch. Some people are really easy to pinch, usually the lower the bodyfat and thin skinned people. But like you said as long as its the same person, its fine, as you know its the mirror the final 4 weeks anyways.... Ive had people not drop in a skinfold in the leg, but when they pose they are visibly better, so its not a be all end all..as you know. Jason Theobald
