In the upcoming No Nonsense magazine I offer a few tips that Roger and I use in our workouts. I thought this would be a great time to ask for you to contribute some tips that help you that may be of help to all.

Here are a couple of mine:

When Roger I work out, we use a Gymboss timer. It keeps our rest intervals at a set time. It beeps and it’s time for the next set. I know we mentioned this in an e-newsletter but I can’t stress this enough… go get one. We cut time off of our training days just by regimenting our rest intervals. We pre-set it for more or less rest time depending on how heavy the weights are.

Plan your work out ahead of time. Know what you are going to do each workout. Roger has a computerized program that he developed long ago that plans every workout for up to 12 weeks in advance. Progression is automatically programmed in so we are always improving. You don’t need something like that, but you do need a plan when you enter the gym. Try to plan one week’s worth of workout, sets, reps, and weight for each exercise. Don’t do too many sets or exercises. As Lee Haney said, “Stimulate, don’t Annihilate”. If you can’t plan for a full week, just plan for a day. And one tip, DON’T PLAN ON DOING TOO MUCH. That’s the biggest mistake you can make, because you feel like a failure if you don’t complete it all. The important thing is that you progress in some way each workout, even if it’s just one more rep on one set.

Pill organizer. Get one. It will save you time each day opening and closing lids on all of your supplements. I use a medium size plastic fishing tackle container. You can get one in the hardware or fishing section of any department store.

Get a hand battery operated portable drink mixer. It will be of great use to you if you are using Creatine Select, Glutamine Select or the new Muscle Synergy Powder…the one we use is made by Good Cook or Aim.

Use extra cold water when you mix your Muscle Synergy or Glutamine Select. You can add an ice cube or two to the water, stir it around, take the ice cubes out, and then mix in your powder. Or, I mix my Glutamine Select in a shaker bottle and then add ice. I shake and sip throughout the workout. It is very refreshing.
