Hey all! I just wanted to post my experience with the addition of Quinoa into my diet. Results for the past 4 weeks have been AMAZING! I have been eating 1.5 cups cooked quinoa twice a day in meals that would usually contain brown rice... I can promise you that I am currently kicking Brown Rice to the curb and King Quinoa is now taking its place in my diet indefinetly!!!

Better pumps, FAR superior Vascularity in only 20 mins within consumption, stay fuller longer, and get this... LOWERED MY BODYFAT JUST SWITCHING OVER FROM BROWN RICE!! All round, there is NO comparison. And now for the best part: IT ONLY TAKES 12 MINS TO COOK 4 DAYS WORTH OF FEEDINGS!!

Quinoa has WAY MORE FIBER, WAY MORE PROTEIN, WAY MORE POTASSIUM, AND MORE OMEGA FATTY ACIDS than regular old Brown Rice. Guys, this is a NO brainer and is an absolute keeper. Here is what I've been doing for this experiment:

Meal 1
2 whole Jumbo Eggs, 2 Jumbo Egg whites
1 cup (dry) Oatmeal

Meal 2
1 scoop UMP

Meal 3
5 oz Ground Sirloin
1.5 cups Quinoa
1/4 cup Black Beans

Meal 4
1 scoop UMP

Meal 5 (post-workout)
5 oz. Tuna or Lean Beef
10 oz. Sweet Potato

Meal 6
5 oz. Ground Sirloin
1.5 cups Quinoa
1/4 cup Black Beans
Veggies

Supps: 5 ultra 40 and 5 Mass w/ every meal, 2 Lean Out w/ every meal, SUPER PAK @ Breakfast, 8 tabs Muscle Syergy first thing in morning + 8 tabs before lifting

EVERYONE DO YOURSELVES A HUGE FAVOR (IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY) ADD QUINOA TO YOUR MENU!! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

How is the taste and texture compared to brown rice?

Quinoa has a distinct taste to it. It isn't super strong. The best I can describe it is that it is a mix of nutty taste and a little basmati rice to it. Kind of exotic, but still has the consistancy of brown or white rice.

I always use Lowry's Seasoning Salt on my Beef and Beans as I throw it in there and so I can't really tell what it truly tastes like?

Oh okay.

I've been doing some extra lean ground beef + brown rice and a few T of tomato sauce.

Would quinoa be a good substitue here?

Oh sure! That would be optimal. That is exactly what I did. Subbed out the brown rice for quinoa! And I am NOT going back!

Can you get this at a Kroger or Wal-Mart or more like a Whole foods store?

Grocery stores or healthfood stores. I get it in the "Health Market" of my local grocery store. You can buy it pre-packaged but that is SUPER EXPENSIVE, if you can get it in bulk grain that is way cheaper. I get it for $2.29 a pound that way. If you buy it pre-packaged, it could cost as much as $8.00 a pound!? Rediculous.

I didn't find it in bulk, but I did find it packaged. I got a pkg of red and a pkg of white. Cooking at this moment.

I had it with beef. I didn't add anything but sea salt and pepper. I think it's one of those that is best when added to something. It was my post workout meal, so I was quite hungry.

Of course, The Eating Machine just ate it and didn't notice until after it was gone..."Hmmm. What was that?" Next time, I think I will add tomatoes and onions, like a cold dish.

Definitely add to my meal choices.

Take a look at the "Practical Eating for Lean Muscle Part One: The Grocery Store" article in last June 07's issue of the NNN. Quinoa gets props from Steve Colescott. Besides, if you haven’t read the article it's great! It’s on the top of Beverly’s "must read" NNN articles.

I have a gluten intolerance and am always looking for grain alternatives. Quinoa is awesome, and QUINOA FLAKES are great as well. I use them instead of oats. They cook up like oatmeal and are the best with a little protein powder and cinnamon. Also good in protein pancakes, brownies, etc. Just a thought for you all... They're expensive, more so than Quaker oats, but do not have the cross-contamination with gluten that oats tend to have.
