What is everyone using for staying "regular" while on a high protein diet?? Vegies and oats arent doing the trick. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

What type of Veggies are you using? Use green fibrous sorts and MORE of them! Broccoli, Spinach, Asperagus, Lettuce, etc. How about Strawberries in your "shakes"? Very fibrous and should do the trick.
If that doesn't take, you can always use the sugar free fiber tablets at your local Grocery store? 1-2 per meal or 1-2 per every other meal? Just make sure that they are sugar free because a LOT of them load up the vitamin C AND the high-fructose corn syrup. Try those options out and see how you do? Vijay Rock Puri, D.C. |

I understand what you are going through. I've tried about everything out there. Other than increasing fiberous veggies, when I'm having trouble I take our Multiple Enzyme Complex. It's worked better for me than anything over the counter or anything my doc has prescribed.
I take one with each meal or two with each meal if having more trouble. This helps you break down your food better, especially protein and helps you absorb nutrients better. Good luck. Rachel Wade Beverly International |

Add fiber to the protein shake and plenty of it. Buy flaxseed, add in the breakfast.

I use psyllium husk. When I make my no-carb pancakes, I mix this in and it adds a nice "fluff".

Hey guys,
What would be considered 'regular' for our bodybuilding diets/lifestyles? My friend(a trainer) who stays lean year round, but doesn't compete ~ she says we should be going 3-4 times a day every day. Any comments? Leslie |

Wow, 3-4 times a day? Some people (even non bodybuilders) may only go 3-4 times a week. I asked my doc this since I have some trouble with it. He said that what's normal for one person won't be the same for the next. For some it's normal to go 1-2 times a day; some 1-2 times a week.
I just know that taking the Multizymes with my meals makes life a lot easier and a lot more pleasant, especially when competiting or following a really strict diet. Rachel Wade Beverly International |

It all depends on lifestyle. Higher fats will slow things down and the same with high protein as some body builders tend to overdo (+ or >50%P). Balancing things out and fiber supp will change everything. There are days when higher carbs, higher calories it will be 3-4 times for me. The low carb, high protein/high fat and lower cal day, it will be 1X and I'm in labor, especially if there's no fiber supp. 3-4 does sound normal when eating higher cals, which can include maintaining. Try simple things such as eating a whole raw carrot. The calories are really null because you're not completely digesting it. Add flaxseeds to several meals, not just one. Again, the calories and benefits of eating flaxseeds for omega fats really shouldn't be counted in or depended on due to the lack of digesting them. You may only digest 20%-30% and everyone being different, it could be less. Personally, the less you chew on them the more that will not be digested and that's why I do...LESS CHEWING. I think 3-4 times would be better for us too.
Frank-Do you think those deadly pickles will help? LOL I've added flax, and more veggies and that has helped the past few weeks.. Rachel, I'll try the Multizymes soon. Thanks guys-valuable feedback as always. Leslie |

As a side note, I'm not promoting less chewing in general, but less chewing of the flaxseeds. Chewing food thoroughly is the most important part of the digestive process. Frank "Lift and be happy. Lift harder and be excited...Get Excited, Get Big!!!" |
