I am retired therefore I go to the gym (for weight lifting),in the morning. Do I eat/drink before going to the gym?
Presently I make a protein/carbohydrate drink and drink about 4 oz. before leaving the house and drink 4oz. at 15 min.intervals while working out. Within 30 minutes after working out, I have some fresh fruit and ceral such as cheerios..
Is this a ggood practice???

I am also retired, but have been training at 5AM for the past 15 years. Smile

To get a more specific response you'd have to include your stats, age, goals, current diet, training, approximate bodyfat, etc. to receive a more detailed answer. What you've supplied us with offers us no help...

It would depend on what and when. It is always recommended to wait AT LEAST 1 hour before attempting any type of exercise. That is one hour after your last bite, not when you began eating (Aram and I race, so give us at least 3 minutes for eating...lol). Drinking a protein shake is considered eating.

Drinks, high carbs, etc., all depends on your goals. As for fluids, 16-20 oz one hour before to thoroughly hydrate yourself. 4 oz per 15 min is a good choice.
