What kind of supplements/herbs would be beneficial in treating a mild depression?

I would try St. John's Wort, 5-htp, Resveratrol, and Ashwaghanda. All are great!

Fish Oil, Fish Oil, and more Fish oil. Tons of research backing it's benefits on depression. Make sure you purchase a quality source and not some cheap **** from Walmart. Beverly's EFA, Any of Poliquin's fish oil products, or SST's Alpha Omega would be at the top of my list.

Also living in MN I would encourage you to get your Vit D levels checked. Cheap test and shouldn't be any problems getting your insurance to cover it.

As a side note, I wanted to add that from my personal experience I believe some people have to use BCAA with caution, being sure to not over do it. Just adding this in the case that you may be using a product such as Glutamine Select or Muscle Mass BCAA. The BCAA have the ability to prevent tryptophan from crossing the blood-brain barrier, therefore lowering serotonin levels. Ideally, this is only a short term effect users will experience, thus allowing for greater focus and energy during workouts.

I have read a lot of feedback from experienced guys who simply have to avoid BCAA and instead stick to the whole protein sources such as Beverly's powders and Ultra 40.

Also, be careful during a cutting phase or inadequate consumption of carbs in general. Carbs are known to have a calming effect by elevating levels of serotonin, making them another important component of maintaining mental health.

Good Luck,
Ryan

St John’s Wort (Hypericum perferatum), this is one of the most researched herbs for treatment of depression...This herb is a favorite among herbalists, the small yellow flowers and aerial parts of this amazing herb are used to treat mild to moderate depression and anxiety for thousands of years...
