Im not a doctor, but I did just have surgery for this problem. from what I/ve learned with this issue is, if you continue to squat, your not only going to be doing without squats your going to be going without walking/working/sleeping thru the night...etc. Get it check out it can be fixed. Good luck.

Confusedthis is the obvious answer fran what caused your problem and how long after did you eventually get it taken care of? was it due to heavy training? old wrestling /football injury? did you try anything prior to surgery? Thanks for your response and concern.

You're going to need to find out just how bad the situation is before you make your next lift. Once the nerve is pinching from the pressure, you'll be in pain.

There's quite a lot of work that can be done from fusion to inserting parts to rebuild the disk.

I've had some issues, pinching nerves to muscle strains and I'll tell you, you'll have to decide when, how much or even if you should lift. For me, it is a hard decision because while it strengthens the muscles in my back, any lift is a potential problem.

Back injuries can happen from anything, from lifting to simply leaning into the car at a wrong angle.

The first step would be to find out from a doctor that specializes in spinal injuries, especially if you know for sure you have this issue.

I hurt my back last year deadlifting, i herniated 2 discs, and tore some ligaments. I was able to recover with chriropractic care, ice and rest. I started trainig for my second figure competition this past sring and bam the problem was back, not due to anything in particular, just a mix of everyday living. I had already tried physical therepy, and chiro so I decided to try. steriod pacs, cortizone injections...didn't work. I was reffered to this guy in dayton. The Dayton laser spine institute..Had the surgery in may was down for a week, and now I'm finally going to do my competition. I didn't even have stiches, a few sessions of p.t and off I went. I also know 3 other people who have had it done. I'ts the new revolution of back surgery. Call Dr. larry Rothstein and just go to an info session, I know the pain your in, fix it befor it gets worse Smile Good luck!!(p.s I'm not a big fan of him personally but he knows what hes doing) Wink

Serpico, Dude,, those of you out there that been on the board for awhile will remember me asking the same questions about 4 years ago on the boards. Well soon after while doing heavy squats,i sheered my L-4 from the vertabre and had to have emergency surgery, the doctor said it was one of the worst ones he ever saw, it was the size of his thumb, it was an 8 hr. surgery. He did say at my follow up appointment i probably would be able to do much strength training again, let alone compete. Well on a good note , nobody tells me i cant do something. 7 months later i placed second in my class at a NPC National qualifier. I have since competed and won many shows including the current N.C. NPC state masters. But the bottom line is Ive been thru **** and back with my back problems , so be careful. Anymore advice Ill be glad to help. Good luck..
